 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 646
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is extremely proud
 1-4     to recognize HYPE and its members on the recent honor of being
 1-5     named a recipient of the Community Champion Award from the Texas
 1-6     Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, To be accorded this honor, the 15 members of HYPE
 1-8     demonstrated maturity, intelligence, and initiative in serving as
 1-9     promoters of zero tolerance underage drinking among area youth of
1-10     Bexar County; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Debuting in the spring of 1999 as a program of the
1-12     San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, HYPE uses music
1-13     and dance as their medium for spreading the importance of leading
1-14     a healthy life and making the right choices; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Ranging in ages from 11 to 18, the energetic
1-16     performers have delivered their message to enthusiastic community
1-17     and school events, a rally at the Capitol, the Inner City Games,
1-18     and at the Alamodome during a San Antonio Spurs game; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Underage drinking is a dire issue in our state,
1-20     and in speaking out against this problem, this hardworking,
1-21     conscientious group of young people have proven themselves
1-22     exceptionally civic-minded individuals; their efforts will help
1-23     maintain the health and well-being of their fellow Texans, and
 2-1     HYPE is truly worthy of recognition; now, therefore, be it
 2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-3     77th Legislature, hereby commend the members of HYPE on receiving
 2-4     one of the Community Champion Awards from the Texas Commission on
 2-5     Alcohol and Drug Abuse and thank them for their dedicated efforts
 2-6     to fight alcohol abuse among underage Texans; and, be it further
 2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
 2-8     group as a token of esteem and high regard from the Texas Senate.
