1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 650 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 recognize Ira B. Scott, Sr., who is being honored on April 9, 2001, 1-5 at the Ira B. Scott Golf Tournament for his contributions to 1-6 Huston-Tillotson University; and 1-7 WHEREAS, An active member of the local and international 1-8 chapters of the Huston-Tillotson Alumni Association, Mr. Scott 1-9 has served three years as alumni trustee on the college board and 1-10 has been chaplain for both the local and international alumni 1-11 associations; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Ira B. Scott completed his undergraduate education 1-13 at Tillotson College, then he completed his master's degree in 1-14 education at Texas Southern University in Houston; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Honored by the Boy Scouts of America for his 1-16 outstanding lifetime service, Mr. Scott has received the Silver 1-17 Beaver Award; and 1-18 WHEREAS, One of the original members of the Afro-American 1-19 Chamber of Commerce in Conroe, Mr. Scott became the assistant 1-20 principal of E. O. Smith Elementary School in 1961, and he 1-21 remained there until his retirement in 1982; and 1-22 WHEREAS, To honor Mr. Scott, the Houston Independent School 2-1 District named the E. O. Smith Education Center and Library after 2-2 Ira Scott, the school's second principal; and 2-3 WHEREAS, President of the Texas Teacher's Credit Union 2-4 from 1972 to 1974, Mr. Scott is presently the vice chairman 2-5 of First Educators Credit Union; he is married to the lovely 2-6 Evelyn R. Landix, his bride of 55 years, and they are the 2-7 proud parents of three sons; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-9 77th Legislature, hereby congratulate Ira B.
