 1-5                                 Graham Ball
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of Wichita Falls
 1-7     and the State of Texas in mourning the loss of Graham Ball, who
 1-8     died March 27, 2001, at the age of 88; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Famed throughout the state, Mr. Ball was the
1-10     Executive Director of the Wichita Falls Boys Clubs from 1946 to
1-11     1989; he had served his country honorably during World War II as
1-12     an officer in the United States Navy and had been a teacher before
1-13     he came to the Boys Clubs; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Fortunately for the Boys Clubs, Mr. Ball chose to
1-15     work for them; he had the talent and flexibility to do almost
1-16     anything; known as Mr. Ball to the thousands who came through the
1-17     doors of the Central Boys Club, he was noted for his strong work
1-18     ethic and his dedication to the boys; and
1-19           WHEREAS, A friend, father figure, disciplinarian, and mentor,
1-20     Graham Ball offered hope and reassurance to the members of the club;
1-21     and
 2-1           WHEREAS, It was once estimated that Mr. Ball had touched the
 2-2     lives of more than 80,000 boys; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Remembered as a strong leader and father figure,
 2-4     Mr. Ball was strict but fair and always believed in playing by the
 2-5     rules; one of the members remembers that no one wanted to be called
 2-6     into Mr. Ball's office or disappoint him; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Today, the men who knew Mr. Ball when they were
 2-8     young boys are grateful for the guidance and strong leadership he
 2-9     practiced; they recognize the great positive influence he had in
2-10     their lives; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Completely dedicated to the boys and the club,
2-12     Graham Ball continually had them in his thoughts; and
2-13           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished figure, Graham Ball
2-14     was respected for his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
2-15           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-16     77th Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to the family
2-17     of Graham Ball:  his son, Graham Kimbrough Ball; his granddaughter,
2-18     Claire Ball; and his sisters:  Bula Mae Hoggard, Minnie Reeves,
2-19     Pauline Nabors, and Winona York; and, be it further
2-20           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his
2-21     family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
2-22     and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-23     Graham Ball.
