1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 656 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 recognize Chequan A. Lewis of Watauga on his recent honor of being 1-5 named a recipient of the Community Champion Award from the Texas 1-6 Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse; and 1-7 WHEREAS, To be accorded this honor, Chequan demonstrated 1-8 maturity, intelligence, and initiative in leadership positions at 1-9 both a community and national level to prevent alcohol abuse 1-10 among teens; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A student at Haltom High School, Chequan is a 1-12 member of his school's High On Life organization; an ambitious 1-13 and articulate young man, he was a delegate to the Mothers Against 1-14 Drunk Driving 2000 National Youth Summit in Washington, D. C., 1-15 where he had the distinct honor of serving as a spokesperson 1-16 during a Capitol Hill press conference; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Chequan has distinguished himself as a community 1-18 leader in many other ways; he has twice been elected class 1-19 president and is a member of the National Honor Society; also 1-20 active in his church, he spends his spare time tutoring; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Underage drinking is a dire issue in our state, 1-22 and in speaking against this problem and working so diligently 1-23 for its prevention, Chequan has proven himself an exceptionally 2-1 civic-minded individual; his efforts will help maintain the 2-2 health and well-being of his fellow Texans, and he is truly 2-3 worthy of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 77th Legislature, hereby commend Chequan A.
