 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 657
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     recognize Harold Kevin Jackson on his recent honor of being
 1-5     named a recipient of the Community Champion Award from the
 1-6     Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, To be accorded this honor, Kevin demonstrated
 1-8     maturity, intelligence, and initiative in holding several
 1-9     leadership positions in national and statewide organizations
1-10     to combat underage drinking; and
1-11           WHEREAS, This 17-year-old student at Stratford High School
1-12     in Houston is the vice president of the Texans Standing Tall
1-13     Executive Committee, a statewide coalition to prevent underage
1-14     drinking; and
1-15           WHEREAS, In addition to his work with Texans Standing Tall,
1-16     Kevin has attended a National Youth Advocacy Assembly, participated
1-17     in sting operations with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission,
1-18     and served as a mentor for at-risk elementary and middle school
1-19     students; and
1-20           WHEREAS, An articulate young man, Kevin has spoken before
1-21     the Houston City Council, and he is also a member of Drug Education
1-22     for Youth; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Underage drinking is a dire issue in our state, and
 2-1     in speaking against this problem and so diligently pursuing its
 2-2     prevention, this hardworking, conscientious young man has proven
 2-3     himself an exceptionally civic-minded individual; his efforts will
 2-4     help maintain the health and well-being of his fellow Texans, and
 2-5     he is truly worthy of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be
 2-6     it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-8     77th Legislature, hereby commend Harold Kevin Jackson on receiving
 2-9     one of the Community Champion Awards from the Texas Commission on
2-10     Alcohol and Drug Abuse and thank him for his dedicated efforts to
2-11     fight alcohol abuse among underage Texans; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-13     Mr. Jackson as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
