1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 658 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 recognize the Bloomington High School Peer Assistance and 1-5 Leadership Class on the recent honor of being named a recipient 1-6 of the Community Champion Award from the Texas Commission on 1-7 Alcohol and Drug Abuse; and 1-8 WHEREAS, To be accorded this honor, the class participants 1-9 demonstrated maturity, intelligence, and initiative in serving as 1-10 promoters of zero tolerance underage drinking among area youth of 1-11 Victoria County; and 1-12 WHEREAS, These industrious young people produce their own 1-13 television and radio public service announcements, sponsor 1-14 alcohol-free parties, dramatize alcohol-related deaths through 1-15 "grim reaper scenarios," developed a game show, and are active 1-16 members of the Victoria Coalition Against Underage Drinking; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Under the direction of their school sponsor, 1-18 Cheryl Shamburger, class members David Escalante, Matt Fancher, 1-19 Katherine Robles, Melanie Davis, Chris Lopez, James Johnson, 1-20 Sara Casares, Lesley Alex, Amanda Swearingen, Laurie Moreno, 1-21 and Maria Rodriguez have demonstrated an overwhelming desire to 1-22 make a difference; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Underage drinking is a dire issue in our state, 2-1 and in speaking out against this problem, this hardworking, 2-2 conscientious group of young people have proven themselves 2-3 exceptionally civic-minded individuals; their efforts will help 2-4 maintain the health and well-being of their fellow Texans, and 2-5 this peer and leadership class is truly worthy of recognition; 2-6 now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 77th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Bloomington 2-9 High School Peer Assistance and Leadership Class on receiving one 2-10 of the Community Champion Awards from the Texas Commission on 2-11 Alcohol and Drug Abuse and thank them for their dedicated efforts 2-12 to fight alcohol abuse among underage Texans; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-14 class as a token of esteem and high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-15 West 2-16 Armbrister Gallegos Ogden 2-17 Barrientos Harris Shapiro 2-18 Bernsen Haywood Shapleigh 2-19 Bivins Jackson Sibley 2-20 Brown Lindsay Staples 2-21 Cain Lucio Truan 2-22 Carona Madla Van de Putte 2-23 Duncan Moncrief Wentworth 2-24 Ellis Nelson Whitmire 2-25 Fraser Zaffirini 2-26 Ratliff, President of the Senate 2-27 ______________________________________ 2-28 President of the Senate 2-29 I hereby certify that the above 2-30 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-31 on April 5, 2001. 2-32 ______________________________________ 2-33 Secretary of the Senate 2-34 ______________________________________ 2-35 Member, Texas Senate
