 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 663
 1-3           WHEREAS, The University of Texas School of Law established
 1-4     the Guanajuato Exchange Program in 1967 to be an academic and
 1-5     cultural exchange with students attending the University of
 1-6     Guanajuato in Mexico; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, During spring break each year, a group of law
 1-8     students from The University of Texas School of Law visits the
 1-9     beautiful City of Guanajuato; the students stay in the homes of
1-10     local students, attend lectures on Mexican law, tour the city,
1-11     and experience heart warming hospitality; and
1-12           WHEREAS, The colorful history and rich association of
1-13     Texans and their neighbors to the south has been characterized
1-14     by the sharing of their cultural and legal ties; and
1-15           WHEREAS, For the past 30 years, the exchange program
1-16     between the two fine universities has presented a unique
1-17     opportunity for these students to become familiar with the
1-18     legal systems of another country; and
1-19           WHEREAS, The exchange program provides a basis for
1-20     enhanced understanding of the economic, political, and social
1-21     relationships that exist between the United States and Mexico;
1-22     and
1-23           WHEREAS, Students from the University of Guanajuato School
 2-1     of Law in Mexico will be visiting the Texas Legislature on
 2-2     Wednesday, April 11, 2001, and, to commemorate the 34th
 2-3     anniversary of the program, a Capitol Day has been scheduled;
 2-4     the Texas Senate is especially proud to welcome the visitors
 2-5     to the Lone Star State:  Gabriela Cervantes, Mayra Corona,
 2-6     Fernando De Leon, Gisela Franco, Alejandro Gonzalez Pina,
 2-7     Erika Gonzalez, Aurora Millan, Leticia Munguia, Fernanda Munoz,
 2-8     Mercedes Pacheco, Limbert Ramirez, Natividad Rangel,
 2-9     Salvador Salazar, Javier Urrutia, Karina Velazquez,
2-10     Minerva Espinola, and Antonio Villa; now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-12     77th Legislature, hereby declare these distinguished citizens
2-13     of Mexico to be honorary citizens of Texas with all attendant
2-14     rights and privileges; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
2-16     for the visiting delegation of the Guanajuato Exchange Program
2-17     as a memento of their participation in this important cultural
2-18     exchange.
