1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 664 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 recognize Brenda Yaneth Herrera on her recent honor of being 1-5 named a recipient of the Community Champion Award from the 1-6 Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse; and 1-7 WHEREAS, To be accorded this honor, Brenda demonstrated 1-8 maturity, intelligence, and initiative in serving as an intern 1-9 for a pilot study to assess awareness among area youth of the 1-10 zero tolerance underage drinking law in Hidalgo County; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Called "What Part of Zero Don't You Understand," 1-12 the pilot program was sponsored by Texans Standing Tall, a 1-13 statewide coalition to prevent underage drinking; and 1-14 WHEREAS, As a selected spokesperson for this vital effort, 1-15 Brenda worked to prepare and deliver speeches at press conferences 1-16 in Austin and in the Rio Grande Valley, and she had the pleasure of 1-17 appearing alongside noted state officials; and 1-18 WHEREAS, A gifted and ambitious young woman, Brenda has also 1-19 demonstrated her commitment to community as a parliamentarian for 1-20 the South Texas Youth Initiative, a volunteer for Boys and Girls 1-21 Club, and an instructor for Computer Camp; she is an exemplary 1-22 high school student and currently ranks fourth in her class; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Underage drinking is a dire issue in our state, 2-1 and in speaking against this problem, this articulate young 2-2 woman has proven herself an exceptionally civic-minded individual; 2-3 her efforts will help maintain the health and well-being of her 2-4 fellow Texans, and she is truly worthy of legislative recognition; 2-5 now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-7 77th Legislature, hereby commend Brenda Yaneth Herrera 2-8 on receiving one of the Community Champion Awards from the 2-9 Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and thank her for 2-10 her dedicated efforts to fight alcohol abuse among underage 2-11 Texans; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-13 Brenda as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-14 Lucio 2-15 Armbrister Gallegos Shapiro 2-16 Barrientos Harris Shapleigh 2-17 Bernsen Haywood Sibley 2-18 Bivins Jackson Staples 2-19 Brown Lindsay Truan 2-20 Cain Madla Van de Putte 2-21 Carona Moncrief Wentworth 2-22 Duncan Nelson West 2-23 Ellis Ogden Whitmire 2-24 Fraser Zaffirini 2-25 Ratliff, President of the Senate 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 President of the Senate 2-28 I hereby certify that the above 2-29 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-30 on April 5, 2001. 2-31 ______________________________________ 2-32 Secretary of the Senate 2-33 ______________________________________ 2-34 Member, Texas Senate
