1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 665 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 recognize Jennifer Ceballos on her recent honor of being named 1-5 a recipient of the Community Champion Award from the Texas 1-6 Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse; and 1-7 WHEREAS, To be accorded this honor, Jennifer demonstrated 1-8 maturity, intelligence, and initiative in serving as an intern 1-9 for a pilot study to assess awareness among area youth of 1-10 Hidalgo County's zero tolerance underage drinking law; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Called "What Part of Zero Don't You Understand," 1-12 the pilot program was sponsored by Texans Standing Tall, a 1-13 statewide coalition to prevent underage drinking; and 1-14 WHEREAS, As one of six interns chosen to help lead the 1-15 program, Jennifer's efforts were crucial; she led focus groups 1-16 and conducted surveys of her peers, school personnel, parents, 1-17 community members, law enforcement officers, judges, and 1-18 prosecutors; and 1-19 WHEREAS, After collecting her data, Jennifer and her 1-20 co-workers prepared reports of their findings which were presented 1-21 at an annual statewide policy summit in Austin; to be of further 1-22 assistance to the campaign, Jennifer attended media literacy and 1-23 advocacy training, so that she could work successfully to present 2-1 the campaign to the public; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Underage drinking is a dire issue in our state, and 2-3 in speaking against this problem, this hardworking, conscientious 2-4 young woman has proven herself an exceptionally civic-minded 2-5 individual; her efforts will help maintain the health and 2-6 well-being of her fellow Texans, and she is truly worthy 2-7 of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-9 77th Legislature, hereby commend Jennifer Ceballos on 2-10 receiving one of the Community Champion Awards from the 2-11 Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and thank her for 2-12 her dedicated efforts to fight alcohol abuse among underage 2-13 Texans; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-15 Jennifer as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-16 Lucio 2-17 Armbrister Gallegos Shapiro 2-18 Barrientos Harris Shapleigh 2-19 Bernsen Haywood Sibley 2-20 Bivins Jackson Staples 2-21 Brown Lindsay Truan 2-22 Cain Madla Van de Putte 2-23 Carona Moncrief Wentworth 2-24 Duncan Nelson West 2-25 Ellis Ogden Whitmire 2-26 Fraser Zaffirini 2-27 Ratliff, President of the Senate 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 President of the Senate 2-30 I hereby certify that the above 2-31 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-32 on April 5, 2001. 2-33 ______________________________________ 2-34 Secretary of the Senate 3-1 ______________________________________ 3-2 Member, Texas Senate
