 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 675
 1-3           WHEREAS, Dr. Grace Jameson of Galveston is being
 1-4     honored with the Rabbi Henry Cohen Humanitarian Award from
 1-5     Temple B'Nai Israel; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, This esteemed woman is a graduate of
 1-7     The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Texas
 1-8     Medical Branch at Galveston, where she also performed her
 1-9     internship and residency; since 1954 she has maintained a
1-10     private practice in Galveston as a psychiatrist, devoting her
1-11     career to helping children and adolescents; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Dr. Jameson has dedicated much of her
1-13     professional life to the advancement of mental health treatment
1-14     and has accordingly served on the board of the Gulf Coast
1-15     Regional Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center, on the
1-16     Texas Board of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, and as
1-17     president of the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, as
1-18     well as in other professional capacities too numerous to mention;
1-19     and
1-20           WHEREAS, Her professional and volunteer work have been
1-21     immeasurably beneficial to the citizens of Galveston; Dr. Jameson
1-22     has long been involved with the  Children's Center of Galveston,
 2-1     which offers Jameson Center Programs named in appreciation of
 2-2     the efforts of Dr. Jameson and her late husband; moreover, she has
 2-3     been active on the board of the Galveston Orphanage, assisted
 2-4     Galveston County in the design of the first facility to hold
 2-5     juvenile suspects and offenders, and ran a therapy group at
 2-6     Our Daily Bread, a facility that serves homeless adults; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, This civic-minded Texan contributes to a host
 2-8     of worthy causes, including sponsoring children in third world
 2-9     countries; she is also deeply committed to her faith, serving as
2-10     president of both Congregation B'Nai Israel and its Sisterhood and
2-11     for many years on the board of directors of the Galveston County
2-12     Jewish Welfare Association; and
2-13           WHEREAS, Dr. Grace Jameson is truly a dedicated
2-14     philanthropist whose lifetime of accomplishment and devotion
2-15     to her fellow Texans has earned her the lasting respect and
2-16     admiration of all who know her; now, therefore, be it
2-17           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-18     77th Legislature, hereby congratulate Dr. Grace Jameson on
2-19     her receipt of the Rabbi Henry Cohen Humanitarian Award from
2-20     Temple B'Nai Israel and extend to her sincere best wishes for
2-21     continued success and happiness; and, be it further
2-22           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
2-23     prepared for Dr. Jameson as an expression of high regard from the
2-24     Texas Senate.
