1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 685 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in 1-4 congratulating Allison Smith of Plano, who has achieved national 1-5 recognition for her exemplary volunteer service by earning the 1-6 designation of Distinguished Finalist in the 2001 Prudential Spirit 1-7 of Community Awards; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Presented by the National Association of Secondary 1-9 School Principals and The Prudential Insurance Company of America, 1-10 this prestigious award pays tribute to young volunteers across 1-11 America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to 1-12 serving their communities; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Allison is one among 227 honorees who have been 1-14 selected as Distinguished Finalists in the competition; she founded 1-15 and directs a student-run volunteer organization with more than 75 1-16 members who have performed volunteer services at homeless shelters, 1-17 food banks, foreign-aid organizations, and orphanages; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Highly respected by her classmates and teachers, 1-19 Allison consistently manifests concern for others and takes an 1-20 avid interest in the betterment of her school and community; and 1-21 WHEREAS, An exemplary young woman with a promising future, 1-22 Allison has demonstrated an overwhelming desire to use her talents 2-1 and her resources to serve others, and she has brought honor to 2-2 herself, her family, and her community; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Allison has made many lasting contributions through 2-4 her generosity of spirit, and her worthy accomplishments should be 2-5 an inspiration for students of all ages and a source of pride for 2-6 all Texans; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 77th Legislature, hereby commend Allison Smith for being awarded 2-9 a Distinguished Finalist medallion in the 2001 Prudential Spirit 2-10 of Community Awards program; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her 2-12 as an expression of high esteem and regard from the Texas Senate. 2-13 Shapiro 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the above 2-17 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-18 on April 9, 2001. 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
