 1-5                             Dr. Ann D. Nichols
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of Galena Park in mourning the death of a beloved
 1-8     physician, Dr. Ann D. Nichols, who died March 24, 2001; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born October 13, 1926, in Oklahoma City, Ann was
1-10     the daughter of Irene and Dr. Grady Deaton, founder of Deaton
1-11     Hospital; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Ann attended The University of Texas before
1-13     obtaining her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine;
1-14     after finishing her studies, she settled permanently in the
1-15     Houston area and practiced anesthesiology in Galena Park; and
1-16           WHEREAS, A dedicated professional, Dr. Nichols was respected
1-17     and loved by her colleagues and patients; she was especially
1-18     receptive to the needs of the poor; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Though not originally from Texas, Ann Nichols came
1-20     to love her adopted state as a native daughter, delighting
1-21     especially in the state's beautiful wild flowers; and
1-22           WHEREAS, A well-known civic leader, Dr. Nichols was active
 2-1     in the Junior League, Delta Gamma, the Daughters of the American
 2-2     Revolution, the Bluebonnet Republican Women, the Harris County
 2-3     Medical Society, and two bridge clubs; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
 2-5     Ann Nichols gave unselfishly of her time to the people of Galena
 2-6     Park, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be
 2-7     forgotten by those who knew her; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Exceptionally talented and compassionate,
 2-9     Dr. Nichols was a devoted physician, and her efforts helped
2-10     ensure the health of thousands in her state; Texas is proud to
2-11     have called her its citizen; now, therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-14     family of Dr. Ann D. Nichols:  her husband, John; her children,
2-15     Don, David, Carolyn, and Joann; and her eight grandchildren; and,
2-16     be it further
2-17           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
2-18     for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-19     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
2-20     so in memory of Dr. Ann D. Nichols.
