 1-5                           Dobbie Leverton Fenton
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Austin in mourning the loss of Dobbie Leverton Fenton, who died
 1-8     Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the age of 55; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born July 27, 1945, in Houston, Texas, Dobbie moved
1-10     to Friendswood at the age of seven; she enrolled at Saint Stephen's
1-11     Episcopal School as an eighth-grade boarder and graduated in 1963;
1-12     she spent two years at Barnard College in New York City and
1-13     graduated magna cum laude from The University of Texas at Austin
1-14     with a degree in English; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Dobbie was dedicated to her career at
1-16     Saint Stephen's, where she served for 33 years as a college
1-17     counselor and as an English teacher; a woman of many talents,
1-18     she was also an African literature critic and had become fluent
1-19     in French to prepare for a French-speaking conference on African
1-20     literature in Senegal; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Dobbie was beloved by her colleagues at the school
 2-1     and by students and parents for her caring and supportive attitude
 2-2     and her intellectual depth and spirituality; eager to help other
 2-3     people, she spent her life preparing students for college and
 2-4     life beyond it; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, Dobbie was respected and
 2-6     treasured by the Saint Stephen's community and will be remembered
 2-7     for her optimism, courage, and compassion, as well as for her many
 2-8     accomplishments; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
2-10     Dobbie gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom,
2-11     warmth, and sense of humor will not be forgotten by those who
2-12     knew her; and
2-13           WHEREAS, Dobbie Fenton lived her life to the fullest and was
2-14     a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves behind
2-15     memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many
2-16     friends; now, therefore, be it
2-17           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-18     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-19     bereaved family of Dobbie Fenton:  her husband of 35 years,
2-20     Alan Fenton; her son and daughter-in-law, Alan H. Fenton III
2-21     and Aimee Fenton; her daughter and son-in-law, Claire and
2-22     David Simmonds; her sister, Susan C. Leverton; and her grandson,
2-23     Sebastian Fenton; and, be it further
2-24           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
 3-1     members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
 3-2     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
 3-3     do so in memory of Dobbie Fenton.
