1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 747 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 honor The University of Texas at Dallas and the members of its 1-5 government honors program on the occasion of their visit to the 1-6 State Capitol on April 18, 2001; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Since it first began admitting freshmen in 1989, 1-8 The University of Texas at Dallas has consistently ranked among 1-9 the highest in the nation and is in the top two in Texas in student 1-10 selectivity ratings, national merit scholars, and SAT scores for 1-11 incoming freshmen; UT-Dallas has accomplished these impressive 1-12 feats while also becoming the fastest growing institution of higher 1-13 education in the Lone Star State; and 1-14 WHEREAS, This exemplary university offers an innovative 1-15 and progressive curriculum and currently grants more computer 1-16 science degrees than any other institution of higher learning in 1-17 the state; moreover, it has brought national recognition to the 1-18 state through its success in academic competitions, including 1-19 debate, chess, and college bowl; and 1-20 WHEREAS, The school's government program has won wide 2-1 acclaim for its work on Texas politics, and the students from 2-2 the government and politics program are routinely placed in some 2-3 of the finest law schools in the country; and 2-4 WHEREAS, The talented students of the government honors 2-5 program have demonstrated impressive academic drive and commitment 2-6 that is typical of students at The University of Texas at Dallas, 2-7 and it is indeed appropriate to honor these future leaders of the 2-8 Lone Star State and the university they attend; now, therefore, 2-9 be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-11 77th Legislature, hereby commend The University of Texas at Dallas 2-12 for its outstanding efforts to educate our state's future leaders 2-13 and extend an official welcome to the school's president, 2-14 Franklyn Jenifer, and vice president, Carlos Pena, and to its 2-15 government faculty and honors students. 2-16 Carona 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 President of the Senate 2-19 I hereby certify that the above 2-20 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-21 on April 18, 2001. 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 Secretary of the Senate 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Member, Texas Senate
