 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 758
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is honored to
 1-4     recognize the Crime Victim's Council of Hunt County, which is
 1-5     celebrating Hunt County's Second Annual National Crime Victims'
 1-6     Rights Week, during the week of April 22 to 28, 2001; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, America's victims' rights organizations have had
 1-8     a powerful impact in educating the nation about the devastating
 1-9     effects of crime and victimization and the need to provide
1-10     services to individuals and communities hurt by crime; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Victimization rates in the United States are the
1-12     lowest recorded since the establishment of the National Crime
1-13     Victimization Survey in 1973 although there were still nearly
1-14     29 million people in America who were victimized by crime last
1-15     year; and
1-16           WHEREAS, The year 2001 marks the 25th anniversary of the
1-17     Victim Impact Statement, which helps our criminal and juvenile
1-18     justice systems better understand the psychological, financial,
1-19     and physical impact of crime on victims, and which holds offenders
1-20     accountable for their criminal and delinquent actions; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Important partnerships have been formed among
1-22     criminal and juvenile justice agencies, allied professionals,
 2-1     victim services, and the private sector to ensure that crime
 2-2     victims are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve;
 2-3     and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Our nation's commitment to crime victim assistance
 2-5     grows stronger with each passing year, with over 10,000 system
 2-6     and community-based programs in place to provide help and hope
 2-7     to victims of crime; now, therefore, be it
 2-8           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-9     77th Legislature, hereby commend the Crime Victim's Council of
2-10     Hunt County on its second year of organized and compassionate
2-11     activity; and, be it further
2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this
2-13     distinguished group as an expression of high regard and esteem
2-14     from the Texas Senate.
