1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 759 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing the Kingsville Chamber of Commerce for its many 1-5 contributions to the citizens of Kingsville and South Texas; 1-6 and 1-7 WHEREAS, The Kingsville Chamber of Commerce was founded on 1-8 January 16, 1908, as "The 5000 Club" by Robert J. Kleberg, 1-9 Charles H. Flato, Jr., and the citizens of Kingsville; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The chamber was organized to advance the economic, 1-11 industrial, educational, professional, cultural, and civic welfare 1-12 of the City of Kingsville; the chamber works in a voluntary 1-13 partnership with businesses and members of the community; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, The chamber was instrumental in bringing South Texas 1-16 Normal School, now Texas A&M University-Kingsville, to the city; 1-17 in 1941, the chamber assisted in bringing to the city the Naval 1-18 Auxiliary Air Station, which was renamed the Naval Air 1-19 Station-Kingsville; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Over the years, the chamber has consistently played 1-21 an active role in improving the quality of education in South Texas; 2-1 the chamber works in partnership with the university and has been 2-2 involved with several programs on the high school level, including 2-3 Texas Scholars and Junior Achievement; and 2-4 WHEREAS, The chamber has established numerous programs to 2-5 promote area businesses, such as Leadership Kingsville, the 2-6 monthly "Business After Hours" mixers, the annual awards banquet, 2-7 the Business Assistance program, and NAS Kingsville; and 2-8 WHEREAS, The chamber sponsors the Cactus Bowl All-Star 2-9 Football Game, the Kleberg/Kenedy Livestock Show and Parade, 2-10 the Christmas Lighting Contest, the PONY Softball Tournaments, the 2-11 Ranching and Heritage Festival, Casino Night, and Javelina Football 2-12 Fever; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Committed to improving the lifestyle of area 2-14 citizens, the Kingsville Chamber of Commerce focuses on economic 2-15 development and education and follows policies that reflect the 2-16 needs and concerns of the people of the whole region; now, 2-17 therefore, be it 2-18 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-19 77th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Kingsville 2-20 Chamber of Commerce on their dedication to the chamber's mission 2-21 and their many accomplishments on behalf of the community; and, 2-22 be it further 2-23 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-1 Cesar Silva, 2001 President, Kingsville Chamber of Commerce, 3-2 Joe Cisneros, Executive Director, Kingsville Chamber of Commerce, 3-3 Bobby Vela, Membership and Marketing, Kingsville Chamber of Commerce, 3-4 Martin Clement, Board of Directors, Oscar Fuentes, Board of Directors, 3-5 Bob Odom, Board of Directors, and Hector Hinojosa, City Manager, City 3-6 of Kingsville as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 3-7 Truan 3-8 Armbrister Gallegos Ogden 3-9 Barrientos Harris Shapiro 3-10 Bernsen Haywood Shapleigh 3-11 Bivins Jackson Sibley 3-12 Brown Lindsay Staples 3-13 Cain Lucio Van de Putte 3-14 Carona Madla Wentworth 3-15 Duncan Moncrief West 3-16 Ellis Nelson Whitmire 3-17 Fraser Zaffirini 3-18 Ratliff, President of the Senate 3-19 ______________________________________ 3-20 President of the Senate 3-21 I hereby certify that the above 3-22 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-23 on April 18, 2001. 3-24 ______________________________________ 3-25 Secretary of the Senate 3-26 ______________________________________ 3-27 Dean of the Senate
