1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 774 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 1-4 American Society of Safety Engineers in observing the second 1-5 annual North American Occupational Safety and Health Week on 1-6 May 6 through 12, 2001; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The observation of this week will feature planned 1-8 education efforts to highlight key safety information and 1-9 emphasize the best practices in occupational safety; and 1-10 WHEREAS, In addition, the safety engineers hope to 1-11 encourage other organizations and federal and state entities 1-12 to observe the week; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The American Society of Safety Engineers 1-14 was founded in 1911, and it is the world's oldest and largest 1-15 professional safety organization; it has 32,000 safety 1-16 professional members in the United States and around the 1-17 world who manage, supervise, and consult on safety, health, 1-18 and environmental issues in industry, insurance, government, 1-19 and education; and 1-20 WHEREAS, During May, 2001, the American Society of Safety 1-21 Engineers, Central Texas Chapter, will recognize outstanding 1-22 efforts of local safety professionals which last year included 1-23 representatives from IBM, Semiconductor, and Motorola; and 2-1 WHEREAS, This week promotes workplace safety programs 2-2 developed jointly by employees and their companies; the 2-3 American Society of Safety Engineers hopes to have the safety 2-4 week observed internationally; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The purpose of the multinational awareness week 2-6 is to promote the need to protect employees by preventing 2-7 work-related injuries and illnesses and to build greater awareness 2-8 of the positive bottom-line impact of effective safety and health 2-9 management programs; and 2-10 WHEREAS, The American Society of Safety Engineers, Central 2-11 Texas Chapter, is planning a public presentation on May 9, 2001, 2-12 at a safety awards luncheon with the Austin Safety Training 2-13 Consortium; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-15 77th Legislature, hereby declare the week of May 6 through 12, 2001, 2-16 Occupational Safety and Health Week in the State of Texas; and, be 2-17 it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a 2-19 memento of this special occasion. 2-20 Barrientos 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the above 2-24 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-25 on April 19, 2001. 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Secretary of the Senate 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Member, Texas Senate
