1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 787 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Ernest Montgomery 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-7 of Austin in mourning the passing of highly respected businessman, 1-8 Ernest Montgomery, who died April 1, 2001, at the age of 82; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The esteemed gentleman will be deeply missed by his 1-10 family and many friends and will be remembered with gratitude for 1-11 his generosity of spirit and strength of character; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Born to the late Lucious and Grace Montgomery in 1-13 Oakalla, Texas, on December 4, 1918, Ernest graduated from 1-14 Lampasas High School and received a degree in accounting from 1-15 The University of Texas at Austin; and 1-16 WHEREAS, He valiantly served his country during World War II 1-17 as a member of the 636th Tank Destroyer Battalion and participated 1-18 in assaults across North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany; and 1-19 WHEREAS, He married his beloved, Iva Rue Moore, on 1-20 January 3, 1942, and the devoted couple shared many years of 1-21 happiness; together they built a loving and secure home for their 1-22 two children; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Talented and knowledgeable in many areas, the 2-2 former bookkeeper and Texas Department of Health employee 2-3 opened Rues Antiques in 1966; the highly successful furniture 2-4 and antique shop was well known throughout Austin and the 2-5 surrounding area for its quality of service and upstanding 2-6 reputation; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Ernest Montgomery was a devoted husband, father, 2-8 grandfather, and great-grandfather; the memories he left behind 2-9 will be forever cherished by his family and friends; now, 2-10 therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 2-13 family of Ernest Montgomery: his wife, Iva Rue Montgomery; 2-14 his sons, Phillip Montgomery and Mark Montgomery; and his 2-15 seven grandchildren and great-grandchild; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-17 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 2-18 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it 2-19 do so in memory of Ernest Montgomery. 2-20 Barrientos 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the above 2-24 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-25 on April 23, 2001, by a rising vote. 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Secretary of the Senate 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Member, Texas Senate
