1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 789 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing Colonel William R. "Randy" Furr who is retiring 1-5 from the Texas Army National Guard after a distinguished career 1-6 spanning 33 years; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The highly respected officer has set a high standard 1-8 of professionalism, inspiring others by his loyalty, dependability, 1-9 and exemplary conduct; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A native of Austin, William R. Furr was born 1-11 December 15, 1947, and graduated from Lanier High School in 1966; 1-12 while earning a bachelor of science degree in social psychology 1-13 and human resources management in 1987 and a master's degree in 1-14 education in counseling and guidance in 1992, the summa cum laude 1-15 graduate and Psi Chi National Honor Society member also received 1-16 extensive military and technical training; and 1-17 WHEREAS, His military service began in 1968, when he enlisted 1-18 in the 122nd Car Company of the Texas Army National Guard as a 1-19 private; he received his commission in 1971 having completed the 1-20 state officer candidate program; and 1-21 WHEREAS, During his tenure, this respected officer served in 1-22 the 71st Airborne Brigade ammunition office, the 49th Armored 1-23 Division ammunition office, and the 49th Division Material 2-1 Management Center; his field grade duties included Maintenance 2-2 Management Officer, Forward Area Support Coordination Officer, 2-3 Armored Division Executive Officer, and Division Support Security 2-4 Plans and Operations Officer; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Colonel Furr's ever increasing responsibilities 2-6 led to his being named Commander 111th Support Battalion, 2-7 Commander 249th Support Battalion, Supply Officer for State Area 2-8 Command, Deputy Director of Maintenance, Logistics Senior Staff 2-9 Officer, Director of Maintenance, and Director of Logistics; and 2-10 WHEREAS, This father of five and grandfather of 12 is indeed 2-11 owed a debt of gratitude by the citizens of the State of Texas 2-12 who have benefitted immeasurably from his wisdom and expertise 2-13 for 33 years; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-15 77th Legislature, hereby commend Colonel William R.
