 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
 1-4     pleasure in recognizing the 75th anniversary of American
 1-5     Airlines; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Robertson Aircraft Corporation, one of 80
 1-7     companies that eventually merged to create American Airlines,
 1-8     is credited with making the company's inaugural flight on
 1-9     April 15, 1926, piloted by world-famous aviator Charles Lindbergh;
1-10     and
1-11           WHEREAS, The Robertson Corporation and many of the other
1-12     companies that became American Airlines were first established as
1-13     mail carriers for the United States Postal Service; by 1934, the
1-14     company was reorganized and renamed American Airlines; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Throughout its long and distinguished history,
1-16     American Airlines has prided itself on being an industry
1-17     trendsetter; the company takes credit for such industry standards
1-18     as nonstop, transcontinental service in both directions across
1-19     the United States, frequent flier marketing campaigns, and the
1-20     installation of Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems; and
1-21           WHEREAS, In the new millennium, American Airlines continues
1-22     to set the industry benchmarks; recently, it launched a campaign
1-23     to enhance passenger comfort by removing coach seats to increase
 2-1     leg room; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, American Airlines has always attributed its success
 2-3     to the diligence of its employees; these men and women oversee
 2-4     everything from passenger check-ins to piloting the plane, and
 2-5     their hard work is essential to maintaining the sterling
 2-6     reputation of American Airlines; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Over the past 75 years, American Airlines has
 2-8     risen from its mail carrier roots to become one of the world's
 2-9     preeminent travel carriers; the comfort, reliability, and
2-10     innovation of American Airlines has won the loyalty of thousands
2-11     of Texas customers, and this esteemed company is truly worthy of
2-12     legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-14     77th Legislature, congratulate American Airlines on the grand
2-15     occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-17     American Airlines as an expression of high regard from the
2-18     Texas Senate.
