 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 793
 1-3           WHEREAS, Time has not dimmed the importance of the
 1-4     Vietnam War to the men and women who participated in that
 1-5     conflict, or diminished our nation's debt to them for their
 1-6     sacrifices, and the creation of a National Vietnam War Museum
 1-7     in Mineral Wells, Texas, will be a fitting tribute to their
 1-8     honored service; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Initiated by the Fort Wolters chapter of the
1-10     Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association, the National Vietnam
1-11     War Museum in Mineral Wells will present the historical facts
1-12     and consequences of the war in an objective manner, examining
1-13     its effects not only on those who endured actual combat, but
1-14     also on the people of the United States and Vietnam; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Using innovative exhibition techniques, the museum
1-16     will portray the Vietnam War through eight interwoven themes:  the
1-17     Cold War, the nation and culture of Vietnam, Vietnam War chronology,
1-18     an evolution in ground, air, and sea warfare, the home front, war's
1-19     end and aftermath, and Fort Wolters; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Among the museum's most successful projects is the
1-21     documentary "Flight Line:  The Army Helicopter Pilots of Vietnam,"
1-22     which was introduced and narrated by Harrison Ford and aired on
 2-1     PBS in November, 2000; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, The Vietnam War was a defining event for an entire
 2-3     generation of Americans, and the members of this body wish to
 2-4     voice their support of the many dedicated individuals working
 2-5     to establish the National Vietnam War Museum in Mineral Wells;
 2-6     the museum will be of great benefit to the state and nation in
 2-7     promoting understanding of the Vietnam War, and it is indeed worthy
 2-8     of special legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore,
 2-9     be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     77th Legislature, hereby honor the men and women who served
2-12     their country as members of the United States armed forces during
2-13     the Vietnam War and extend to all those associated with the
2-14     National Vietnam War Museum in Mineral Wells sincere best wishes
2-15     for success with this significant project; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
2-17     prepared for the National Vietnam War Museum as an expression
2-18     of high regard by the Texas Senate.
