 1-5                               Ann Loeb Sikora
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Dallas in mourning the loss of esteemed civic leader and
 1-8     humanitarian Ann Loeb Sikora, who died January 4, 2001, at the
 1-9     age of 63; and
1-10           WHEREAS, A compassionate and benevolent woman, Mrs. Sikora
1-11     will be remembered for her invaluable contributions to her
1-12     community through her tireless efforts to improve the lives
1-13     of others; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Born in Sweetwater, Texas, she graduated from Newman
1-15     High School in 1954 and attended The University of Texas at Austin,
1-16     where she actively participated in Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority; and
1-17           WHEREAS, This highly respected woman contributed her time and
1-18     expertise as a member of numerous boards, including the Community
1-19     Council of Greater Dallas, the Anti-Defamation League, the Dallas
1-20     Women's Foundation, the National Conference of Christians and Jews,
1-21     and the Dallas Home for the Aged; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Mrs. Sikora was deeply involved in community
 2-1     life as the first female president of the Jewish Federation of
 2-2     Greater Dallas; she was a founding member of Mazon:  The Jewish
 2-3     Response to Hunger; as a member of the Interfaith Commission in
 2-4     Dallas she worked diligently on Jewish-Christian relations; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, As a tribute to this selfless individual who
 2-6     worked tirelessly on behalf of human rights and social justice,
 2-7     Mrs. Sikora was honored by the American Jewish Congress in
 2-8     June, 2000, with their Women of Spirit Award; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, The loss of such a generous woman widely admired
2-10     for her remarkable grace is felt not only by her family and
2-11     many friends, but also by the people who benefitted from her
2-12     philanthropy and community spirit, and it is appropriate for the
2-13     Texas Senate to honor her memory; now, therefore, be it
2-14           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-15     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
2-16     family of Ann Loeb Sikora: her beloved husband, Dr. David Sikora;
2-17     her son, Danny Sikora; and her sister, Betty Loeb Bouchett; and, be
2-18     it further
2-19           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-20     members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-21     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-22     in memory of Ann Loeb Sikora.
