1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 801 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride 1-4 in recognizing Troy Aikman, whose retirement as quarterback of 1-5 the Dallas Cowboys brings to a close an unprecedented era in the 1-6 history of Texas professional football; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A star athlete who began his remarkable career as 1-8 a Fighting Hen in Henryetta, Oklahoma, and excited fans at the 1-9 University of Oklahoma and the University of California at 1-10 Los Angeles, Troy Aikman leaves the State of Texas and the 1-11 Dallas Cowboys a legacy of unparalleled determination and 1-12 perseverance; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The future Hall of Fame inductee ended the 1990s 1-14 as the winningest starting quarterback in the history of the 1-15 National Football League; leading the Cowboys to 90 victories 1-16 in 10 years, six National Football Conference East championships, 1-17 and an unprecedented three Super Bowl championships in four 1-18 seasons will earn the Dallas Cowboys a rightful place in sports 1-19 annals; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Having worn only one uniform throughout his 12-year 1-21 professional football career, Troy Aikman proved beyond a doubt 1-22 that athletes can be heroes; amassing an impressive personal 1-23 record with six Pro Bowl appearances, this fearless athlete also 2-1 holds nearly every major passing record in franchise history; and 2-2 WHEREAS, This man of indomitable courage and strength of 2-3 character is also a man of great compassion and generosity of 2-4 spirit; his selflessness affords countless children the 2-5 opportunity to receive desperately needed social, educational, 2-6 physical, and psychological help through the Troy Aikman 2-7 Foundation; and 2-8 WHEREAS, It is indeed an honor for the Texas Senate to join 2-9 citizens throughout the State of Texas in commending Troy Aikman 2-10 on his benevolence, his sportsmanship, and his ability to bring 2-11 the Lone Star State to the forefront of professional football; 2-12 his dedication to the Dallas Cowboys and the State of Texas is 2-13 truly admirable and worthy of legislative recognition; now, 2-14 therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 77th Legislature, hereby congratulate Troy Aikman on his 2-17 exceptional football career and extend all best wishes for 2-18 the future; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-20 Mr. Aikman as an expression of esteem and high regard from the 2-21 Texas Senate. 2-22 Nelson 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 President of the Senate 2-25 I hereby certify that the above 2-26 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-27 on April 24, 2001. 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Secretary of the Senate 2-30 ______________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate
