1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 813 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure 1-4 in commending James R. Thompson, president and member of the 1-5 Kaufman Independent School District Board of Trustees, for his 1-6 15 years of distinguished service to the educational system of 1-7 Texas; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Since he became a member of the board in 1986 and 1-9 president in 1991, Mr. Thompson has discharged his duties in an 1-10 exemplary manner, earning the respect and confidence of those with 1-11 whom he was associated; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson will be remembered by his associates 1-13 as a caring and dedicated leader who worked conscientiously for 1-14 the improvement of the Kaufman school system; his efforts resulted 1-15 in new campuses, additional classrooms, and new math and science 1-16 wings in several district schools, and a competition gymnasium and 1-17 Student Activity Complex at Kaufman High School; and 1-18 WHEREAS, His diligence in the performance of his duties 1-19 earned Kaufman Independent School District the distinction of being 1-20 named a "Recognized" district by the Texas Education Agency; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Understanding the importance of being able to 1-22 pursue higher education, the 1968 graduate of Texas A&M University 1-23 and former Corps of Cadets member helped establish the Kaufman 2-1 Independent School District Scholarship Foundation; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The highly regarded community leader served on 2-3 two Texas A&M University boards, the National Board of General 2-4 Contractors, and is a past president of the Dallas Associated 2-5 General Contractors; and 2-6 WHEREAS, James R. Thompson has taken an active interest 2-7 in his community and has labored tirelessly for the improvement 2-8 of the school system, and the citizens of Kaufman and the 2-9 State of Texas are deeply indebted to him for his exceptional 2-10 contributions; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 77th Legislature, hereby express its appreciation to 2-13 James R.
