 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 822
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-4     family and friends of Caleb Williams of Lewisville, Texas, in
 1-5     congratulating him for winning first place in the 64th annual
 1-6     American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, A senior at Lewisville High School, Caleb advanced
 1-8     through three intense rounds of competition delivering a prepared
 1-9     address and an extemporaneous speech on the constitution during
1-10     the April 6 through 8, 2001, contest in Indianapolis, Indiana; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Caleb received an $18,000 scholarship for placing
1-12     first in a field of 54 contestants from around the country as well
1-13     as from Puerto Rico, Guam, Mexico, and France, who had earned the
1-14     honor of representing their state or nation; and
1-15           WHEREAS, In delivering his speech "The Muscles We Have in
1-16     Writing," this exemplary young man exhibited an extraordinary
1-17     understanding of the United States Constitution as demonstrated
1-18     by his winning the national title bringing honor to himself, his
1-19     family, his school, and his state; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Caleb Williams's commitment to succeed and his
 2-1     drive to accomplish goals are admirable, and the accomplishments
 2-2     of this young man are a source of pride for all Texans; now,
 2-3     therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-5     77th Legislature, hereby commend Caleb Williams for his
 2-6     superb achievements and extend best wishes for continued
 2-7     success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
 2-8           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 2-9     Caleb as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
