 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 832
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     recognize Central Congregational Church of Houston, Texas,
 1-5     on the grand occasion of its 150th anniversary, which is being
 1-6     celebrated September 16, 2001; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The rich, historical heritage of Central
 1-8     Congregational Church reflects the dedication by its members of
 1-9     their talents, skills, vision, wisdom, and selfless service to
1-10     others; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Since 1851, the church has been an invaluable
1-12     asset to Houston, and the time-honored tradition continues today
1-13     as the church houses the offices of Houston Habitat for Humanity
1-14     and Houston Graduate School of Theology; and
1-15           WHEREAS, It is a multi-faceted evangelistic organization
1-16     that has served the Houston community in such ministries as
1-17     job training, emergency relief, day care, home meal delivery,
1-18     a clothes closet, back-to-school programs, and a thrift shop; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Central Congregational Church has been a source
1-20     of comfort and hope in times of great distress for its members
 2-1     and a place of fellowship and love to those who have come to
 2-2     worship for 150 years; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is proud to recognize Central
 2-4     Congregational Church and the splendid work its members are doing
 2-5     for the community; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     77th Legislature, hereby commend the congregation of Central
 2-8     Congregational Church on this important milestone in the life
 2-9     of the church; and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-11     the congregation as an expression of high regard from the
2-12     Texas Senate.
