 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 836
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to join
 1-4     the students and faculty of Worth Heights Elementary School in
 1-5     their campaign to establish National Children's and Police Day; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Recognizing the dedication law enforcement officers
 1-7     make to ensure the safety of our schools, homes, and communities,
 1-8     the students of Worth Heights Elementary seek to pay tribute to
 1-9     these exemplary men and women by designating the Friday of every
1-10     National Police Week as National Children's and Police Day; and
1-11           WHEREAS, With a dramatic rise in school violence across this
1-12     country there is a tremendous need to instill in young people a
1-13     respect for authority figures; police departments make a concerted
1-14     effort to establish mutual understanding and cooperation with
1-15     schools and deserve to have their unselfish service acknowledged;
1-16     and
1-17           WHEREAS, In honoring these men and women who deal daily
1-18     with the unique challenges of law enforcement duty and who
1-19     face countless dangerous situations in their efforts to provide
1-20     protection, these students wish to express their appreciation by
1-21     encouraging students across Texas and this nation to join their
1-22     campaign; and
1-23           WHEREAS, National Children's and Police Day provides a
 2-1     perfect opportunity for all schoolchildren to express their
 2-2     gratitude for the innumerable contributions of law enforcement
 2-3     officers, and the Texas Senate is proud to support Worth Heights
 2-4     Elementary School in this outstanding endeavor; now, therefore,
 2-5     be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     77th Legislature, hereby declare Friday, May 18, 2001, as
 2-8     National Children's and Police Day and encourage all schools
 2-9     to join in supporting this special day; and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-11     Worth Heights Elementary School as an expression of high regard
2-12     from the Texas Senate.
