1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 837 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-4 recognize Gladys Harrington on the grand occasion of her 100th 1-5 birthday on May 29, 2001; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Gladys was born in Paris, Texas, on May 29, 1901, 1-7 and moved to Plano at age 16; an alumnus of Plano High School, 1-8 she married Frederick Joseph Harrington on October 8, 1919; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Her family was one of the first to settle in the 1-10 Plano area, and Gladys has always had a deep and abiding love for 1-11 her hometown; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Gladys actively supports the arts in her community; 1-13 she currently supports the Plano Chambers Orchestra, and for her 1-14 lifelong commitment to reading and the many years of service and 1-15 leadership she contributed to the Plano Public Library Board, 1-16 the city's Gladys Harrington Library was named in her honor; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Known as the "grand old dame" of Collin County's 1-18 Grand Old Party, Gladys has great enthusiasm for politics, and 1-19 she has generously given of her time and talent over the years 1-20 to furthering the cause of the Republican Party; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Gladys attributes her longevity to a lifelong 1-22 passion for activity; she regularly engages her mind with good 2-1 literature, keeps busy with numerous civic commitments, and seeks 2-2 the pleasant society of friends and family; and 2-3 WHEREAS, At age 100, Gladys remains an intelligent, 2-4 articulate, and energetic person, who lives each day to the 2-5 fullest; the long, rich life she has experienced serves as an 2-6 inspiration to all Texans; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 77th Legislature, hereby join the family and friends of 2-9 Gladys Harrington in extending best wishes to her and 2-10 congratulations on the grand occasion of her 100th birthday; 2-11 and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this 2-13 venerable Texan as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-14 Shapiro 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 President of the Senate 2-17 I hereby certify that the above 2-18 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-19 on May 1, 2001. 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 Secretary of the Senate 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 Member, Texas Senate
