 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 842
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate takes pride in joining the citizens
 1-4     of Texas and of the United States in recognizing their incalculable
 1-5     debt to the nation's military personnel, who have served valiantly
 1-6     throughout the country's history; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The efforts and sacrifices of these brave military
 1-8     people have secured the blessings of liberty for countless
 1-9     Americans over many generations, and the month of May is strongly
1-10     associated with the remembrance of these courageous men and women;
1-11     and
1-12           WHEREAS, A special day was selected after World War I to pay
1-13     tribute to all Americans who gave their lives for their country;
1-14     each year, citizens of Texas and the United States have gathered
1-15     on Memorial Day to recognize the noble ideals of duty, honor, and
1-16     patriotism; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Charged with maintaining the nation's security and
1-18     prepared to do their utmost to defend their country and the cause
1-19     of freedom, the nation's men and women in the armed services serve
1-20     at their posts every day of the year, at home and throughout the
1-21     world; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Having long distinguished themselves in the
1-23     annals of the armed forces, Texans and other fellow citizens
 2-1     of the United States of America continue to uphold the tradition
 2-2     of gallantry and integrity established by the legions who have
 2-3     preceded them; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Consequently, it is fitting that all citizens
 2-5     pay tribute to the country's past and present members of the
 2-6     United States military services; now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-8     77th Legislature, hereby recognize May, 2001, as Remembrance,
 2-9     Armed Forces, and Veteran Appreciation Month in the
2-10     State of Texas and urge all Texans to honor our country's
2-11     military personnel for their vital contributions to freedom
2-12     and democracy; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-14     the Military Order of the Purple Heart of Texas as an expression
2-15     of the highest esteem from the Texas Senate.
