1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 846 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 recognizing Dr. Kenneth L. Mattox, who has been selected as the 1-5 Distinguished Houston Surgeon for 2001 by the Houston Surgical 1-6 Society; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Born in Ozark, Arkansas, Kenneth Mattox graduated 1-8 from Wayland College in Plainview, Texas, and earned his medical 1-9 degree from Baylor College of Medicine; he was a flight surgeon 1-10 captain in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1965 to 1967 1-11 and received the Legion of Merit, United States Army Presidential 1-12 Citation; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Dr. Mattox rose through the ranks of training and 1-14 faculty service at Baylor College of Medicine to become professor 1-15 of surgery and vice chairman of the Department of Surgery; since 1-16 1990, he has served as chief of surgery and chief of staff of 1-17 Ben Taub General Hospital, where he also supervises the trauma 1-18 training of Armed Forces personnel; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Dr. Mattox's practice is in general, thoracic, 1-20 cardiovascular, and trauma surgery; he is an internationally 1-21 recognized authority in trauma and is noted for his many 1-22 contributions to his profession and to his fellowman through 2-1 his teaching, research, and direct patient care; and 2-2 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman who has distinguished 2-3 himself as a surgeon and community leader, Dr. Mattox has 2-4 dedicated his life to helping others through the world of 2-5 surgical medicine, and he deserves recognition for his 2-6 outstanding accomplishments; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 77th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Kenneth L.
