 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 878
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     recognizing the Waco Citizen on the grand occasion of its 55th
 1-5     anniversary, which is being celebrated with an open house on
 1-6     May 12, 2001; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Founded after World War II by W. S. Foster, the
 1-8     Waco Citizen is a community-oriented newspaper that grew from
 1-9     meager beginnings and expanded to two issues a week; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Over the years, the Waco Citizen has modified its
1-11     equipment and printing processes to keep up with modern methods,
1-12     and the newspaper has continued to reflect the mood and feelings
1-13     of area citizens; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Today, the newspaper is a member of the Crawford
1-15     Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce, the
1-16     Texas Press Association, and the National Newspaper Association;
1-17     a three million circulation magazine is now a weekly part of
1-18     the publication, and the newspaper places Tex Scan classified
1-19     advertisements in Texas and throughout other states; and
1-20           WHEREAS, W. S. Foster's son, Bill Foster, is the owner and
1-21     publisher of the Waco Citizen, and he has received a number of
1-22     awards from such organizations as the United States Marines,
 2-1     the Salvation Army, and area Lions Clubs; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, The owner and all the members of the Waco Citizen
 2-3     staff deserve recognition for producing this popular newspaper
 2-4     which has had a loyal and growing following for 55 years and
 2-5     which will continue to be successful for years to come; now,
 2-6     therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-8     77th Legislature, hereby commend the Waco Citizen on its many
 2-9     contributions to the community and extend to all associated
2-10     with the newspaper best wishes for the future; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-12     Waco Citizen as a token of regard from the Texas Senate.
