1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 886 1-3 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is proud to recognize 1-4 William T. Solomon of Dallas for his invaluable contributions 1-5 to the State of Texas through his steadfast support of the 1-6 Texas highway system as chairman of the Coalition for Better 1-7 Transportation; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The Coalition for Better Transportation was formed 1-9 in 1982 and has raised more than $1 million for supporting 1-10 transportation issues; the work of individuals such as Mr. Solomon 1-11 has been invaluable in marshalling assistance for improvements to 1-12 the Texas highway system; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on August 11, 1942, Bill Solomon 1-14 attended Southern Methodist University, receiving his bachelor 1-15 of science degree in civil engineering in 1965 and earning a 1-16 master's degree in business administration at Harvard University 1-17 in 1967; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Bill Solomon began working in 1967 at the company 1-19 that his grandfather founded in 1918, Austin Industries, 1-20 Incorporated, the largest commercial and industrial contractor 1-21 in Dallas; in 1970, Bill was named president of the company; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Today, Mr. Solomon continues to serve Austin 1-23 Industries as chairman of the well-known and esteemed company; and 2-1 WHEREAS, A renowned civic leader, Mr. Solomon is currently 2-2 a member of the Dallas Citizens Council, the World Presidents' 2-3 Organization, and Northaven United Methodist Church; his present 2-4 board memberships include the A. H. Belo Corporation, the 2-5 Southwestern Medical Foundation Board of Trustees, and the 2-6 Hoblitzelle Foundation; and 2-7 WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and honors, 2-8 Bill Solomon won the Humanitarian Award from the National Council 2-9 of Christians and Jews in 1982, the Excellence in Community Service 2-10 Award from the Dallas Historical Society in 1993, and the Texas 2-11 Minority Business Advocate of the Year award from the United States 2-12 Small Business Administration in 1995; he was named to the Texas 2-13 Business Hall of Fame in 1996; and 2-14 WHEREAS, Having worked diligently for the betterment of 2-15 Texas, Mr. Solomon is truly deserving of legislative recognition; 2-16 now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-18 77th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud William T.
