1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 943 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great 1-4 pleasure in recognizing Brenda King, who is retiring from the 1-5 Killeen Independent School District after 30 years of dedicated 1-6 service; and 1-7 WHEREAS, An enthusiastic teacher, assistant principal, and 1-8 principal, Mrs. King has instilled in her students a sense of 1-9 pride, a love of learning, and the skills they need for being 1-10 successful, productive citizens; and 1-11 WHEREAS, After completing a bachelor of science degree at 1-12 the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in 1969, Mrs. King embarked 1-13 on a successful career with the Killeen Independent School 1-14 District; she began her tenure in the spring of 1970 as a 1-15 substitute teacher; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Coupling her broad experience and versatility with 1-17 a master's degree in education from Tarleton State University 1-18 in 1981, this remarkable individual rounded out her distinguished 1-19 career with the district as an assistant principal and principal; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, Under her superior leadership as principal, Mountain 1-22 View Elementary was a Recognized School for three years, received 2-1 the 1992-1993 Highest Attendance Award, the 1999 Achievement 2-2 Award for the "Just for the Kids Program," and the Governor's 2-3 Certificate for Texas Successful Schools Award; and 2-4 WHEREAS, In tribute to her dedication to her profession and 2-5 her community, Mrs. King was honored with the Killeen Teachers 2-6 Administrator of the Year award and the Harker Heights Kiwanis 2-7 Club Top Administrator award in 1992; she was also the Kiwanis 2-8 Club of Harker Heights 2000 Distinguished Club President; and 2-9 WHEREAS, The tireless efforts of Mrs. King on behalf of the 2-10 schoolchildren of the Killeen Independent School District are 2-11 truly admirable and worthy of legislative recognition; now, 2-12 therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 77th Legislature, hereby commend Brenda King for her superb 2-15 contributions to the educational system of Texas and extend 2-16 best wishes for a rewarding retirement; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her 2-18 as a token of esteem and high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-19 Fraser 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 President of the Senate 2-22 I hereby certify that the above 2-23 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-24 on May 4, 2001. 2-25 ______________________________________ 2-26 Secretary of the Senate 2-27 ______________________________________ 2-28 Member, Texas Senate
