 1-3           WHEREAS, The Galveston Independent School District recently
 1-4     selected its Teacher of the Year nominees for exemplary commitment
 1-5     to academic excellence; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, With only one faculty member chosen from each school
 1-7     in the district, nominees represent those educators who are known
 1-8     among their students and colleagues for the dedication, creativity,
 1-9     expertise, and integrity they exhibit in the classroom; and
1-10           WHEREAS, The 2001 Teacher of the Year nominees are
1-11     Bertdell Norwood of Alamo Elementary School; Jackie Lawson
1-12     of Bolivar Elementary School; Stephen Cole of Bolivar Secondary
1-13     School; Merian Stinson of Burnet Elementary School; Katie Rhoads
1-14     of L. A. Morgan Elementary School; Lisa Schweitzer of Oppe
1-15     Elementary School; Molly Helmer of Parker Elementary School;
1-16     Veronica Holmes of Rosenberg Elementary School; Rachelle Joseph
1-17     of San Jacinto Elementary School; Jiovanna Quintero of
1-18     Scott Elementary School; Vernon Kennedy of Stephen F. Austin
1-19     Middle School; Susan Curnutt of Central Middle School;
1-20     Michelle "Missy" Miller of Weis Middle School; Ray Quoyeser of
1-21     Ball High School; and Robert DeWolfe of the Alternative Education
 2-1     Program; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, These outstanding educators model a love of
 2-3     learning for their students that is the hallmark of great teachers,
 2-4     and each has made a lasting difference in the lives of many young
 2-5     people; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     77th Legislature, hereby honor the Galveston Independent
 2-8     School District Teacher of the Year nominees and commend them
 2-9     for their notable contributions to the field of education; and,
2-10     be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
2-12     prepared for each teacher as an expression of high regard by
2-13     the Texas Senate.
