 1-2                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1008
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 1-4     commend Melissa Voss on being admitted to the Texas Academy of
 1-5     Mathematics and Science at the University of North Texas; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, An early admissions college program for Texas
 1-7     residents, the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science boasts
 1-8     one of the most challenging curriculums available to students
 1-9     of high school age in our nation; and
1-10           WHEREAS, After completion of their sophomore years,
1-11     students who wish to pursue studies in mathematics, science,
1-12     and engineering are able to compete for one of 200 spots in the
1-13     Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science's entering class; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Admission requirements are stringent and course
1-15     work is challenging, but those students who graduate from
1-16     the program are exposed to a unique and supportive learning
1-17     environment where they have the opportunity to complete their
1-18     final two years of high school while earning 60 hours of college
1-19     credit; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Melissa Voss, a resident of Terrell, has
1-21     distinguished herself academically by earning admittance to the
1-22     Class of 2003 of the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Melissa's two years at the Texas Academy of
 2-2     Mathematics and Science will prepare her well for her future
 2-3     scholastic and professional endeavors; a talented and ambitious
 2-4     young person, she is to be commended for her maturity, hard work,
 2-5     and dedication; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     77th Legislature, hereby applaud Melissa Voss on her recent
 2-8     accomplishment of earning admission to the Texas Academy of
 2-9     Mathematics and Science at the University of North Texas and
2-10     wish her much success in her future endeavors; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
2-12     as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
