1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1026 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 recognize the City of Taylor on the grand occasion of its 125th 1-5 anniversary, which is being celebrated June 8 through 10, 2001; 1-6 and 1-7 WHEREAS, Founded in 1876 as a railroad town, Taylor was 1-8 originally named Taylorsville for Moses Taylor, an executive 1-9 of the International and Great Northern Railroad; early Taylor 1-10 settlers were railroad officials, such as John R. Hoxie and 1-11 Henry Dickson, and merchants such as C. P. Vance, who moved his 1-12 general store from Circleville; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The Texas Land Company advertised the sale of 1-14 town lots in Taylorsville and encouraged commercial businesses 1-15 and churches to be erected; the first bank in Taylor was owned 1-16 by Miller Brothers and Robertson but was soon closed, and in 1883, 1-17 the First National Bank opened for business; the Taylor Savings and 1-18 Loan Association started business in 1885, and the City National 1-19 Bank of Taylor opened in 1900; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Taylorsville became home to Methodist and 1-21 Presbyterian churches and soon became a major shipping point for 1-22 cattle; in 1882, a second rail line, the Missouri, Kansas & Texas 2-1 was extended to Taylorsville, and that same year, the town was 2-2 incorporated, and Daniel Moody, the father of Governor Dan Moody, 2-3 served as its first mayor; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Some of the early hotels and boarding houses 2-5 included the T. J. Kamp Hotel, located on the corner of West Main 2-6 and First streets, the Napier Hotel, located on the present site 2-7 of the Taylor Hardware Company, and the Minor Hotel, located on 2-8 the site of T. W. Morse Company; and 2-9 WHEREAS, In 1892, the city's name was shortened to Taylor, 2-10 and by that time, cotton had joined cattle and the railroad as an 2-11 important element in the local economy; and 2-12 WHEREAS, At one time, Taylor had a street car line owned 2-13 by Dr. A. V.
