1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1032 1-3 WHEREAS, Drug courts provide the focus and leadership for 1-4 communitywide, antidrug systems, bringing together criminal 1-5 justice, treatment, education, and other community partners in 1-6 the fight against drug abuse and criminality; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Drug court programs combine intensive judicial 1-8 supervision, mandatory substance abuse treatment and drug testing, 1-9 and escalating sanctions and incentives in order to break the cycle 1-10 of drug addiction and its concomitant crime; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, 1-12 treatment and rehabilitation professionals, law enforcement and 1-13 corrections personnel, researchers and educators, national and 1-14 community leaders, and others dedicated to the movement have had 1-15 a profound impact through hard work and commitment to their 1-16 communities; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The drug court movement has grown from the 12 1-18 original drug courts in 1994 to over 1,000 drug courts nationwide 1-19 that are in operation or in the planning stages; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Texas has five implemented treatment drug courts, 2-1 one family court, one juvenile court, and one tribal court and 2-2 five courts in the planning stages; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-4 77th Legislature, hereby recognize May, 2001, as National Drug 2-5 Court Month and commend the practitioners and participants who 2-6 make drug courts work and the significant contributions that 2-7 drug courts have made, and continue to make, in reducing drug 2-8 usage and crime. 2-9 West 2-10 ______________________________________ 2-11 President of the Senate 2-12 I hereby certify that the above 2-13 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-14 on May 10, 2001. 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Secretary of the Senate 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 Member, Texas Senate
