 1-2                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1085
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-4     faculty and staff of the Houston Independent School District
 1-5     in recognizing Claude L. Cole for his 47 years of outstanding
 1-6     service as an educator; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, A graduate of Tennessee State University,
 1-8     Mr. Cole went on to earn his master's degree in education from
 1-9     Texas Southern University and also did graduate work at the
1-10     University of Oklahoma; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Claude served his country honorably as a
1-12     sergeant in the United States Army; he worked as an artillery
1-13     school instructor at Fort Bliss and completed his tour of duty
1-14     in Thule, Greenland; and
1-15           WHEREAS, After gaining classroom experience as a science
1-16     teacher, Mr. Cole became Assistant Principal of W. E. Miller
1-17     Junior High School in 1972; four years later, he became Assistant
1-18     Principal of Houston Technical Institute; and
1-19           WHEREAS, In 1980, Claude began his 21-year tenure as
1-20     Assistant Principal of Barbara Jordan High School for Careers;
1-21     and
1-22           WHEREAS, Claude Cole is active in many professional
1-23     organizations; he is a member of the Houston Association of School
 2-1     Administrators, the Houston Alliance of Black School Educators, and
 2-2     the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, In addition to his work as an educator, Claude has
 2-4     supported his community in a variety of ways; he is active in the
 2-5     Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
 2-6     and the King David 2500 Masonic Lodge; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Through his work, Claude Cole has given young
 2-8     Texans the education necessary to become informed, thoughtful,
 2-9     and well-rounded adults who will make positive contributions
2-10     to society; all Texans have benefitted from his commitment to
2-11     excellence in his profession, and for his lifetime of achievements
2-12     in the field of education, he is truly worthy of legislative
2-13     commendation; now, therefore, be it
2-14           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-15     77th Legislature, hereby express its deepest appreciation to
2-16     Claude L. Cole for his 47 years of work as an educator in Texas
2-17     and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further
2-18           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
2-19     as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
