1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1104 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-4 congratulate James Larry Tucker on the occasion of his retirement 1-5 as Superintendent of the Leonard Independent School District after 1-6 43 years in education; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A native of Golden, Texas, Mr. Tucker earned his 1-8 bachelor of science and master of education degrees from 1-9 Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Mr. Tucker began his career as superintendent with 1-11 significant classroom and administrative experience; after serving 1-12 as principal of Avery High School and Rivercrest High School, and 1-13 as athletic director for Talco High School, Mr. Tucker began his 1-14 26-year tenure as superintendent of the Leonard Independent School 1-15 District on July 1, 1975; and 1-16 WHEREAS, During his time as superintendent, the Leonard 1-17 Independent School District grew significantly, and Mr. Tucker 1-18 worked diligently to ensure the adequate construction and 1-19 renovation of the district's educational facilities; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Mr. Tucker has consistently proven his leadership 1-21 abilities as superintendent; most notable were his efforts to 2-1 assist the community in recovering after a devastating fire at 2-2 the local high school; and 2-3 WHEREAS, An avid basketball fan, Mr. Tucker has always 2-4 given his unwavering support to Leonard Independent School 2-5 District's basketball teams; he has been instrumental in 2-6 continuing the 40-year tradition of the Annual Leonard High 2-7 School Holiday Basketball Tournament; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Respected for his knowledge and expertise, 2-9 Mr. Tucker holds membership in the National Association 2-10 of School Administrators, the Texas Association of School 2-11 Administrators, the Texas Association of Community Schools, 2-12 and the Texas State Teachers Association; and 2-13 WHEREAS, In addition to his work as an educator, Mr. Tucker 2-14 has supported his community in a variety of ways; he has assumed 2-15 leadership positions in the Leonard Chamber of Commerce, the 2-16 Leonard Kiwanis Club, the Leonard Youth Sports Association, the 2-17 Leonard Industrial Foundation, and the American Bank of Texas at 2-18 Leonard; and 2-19 WHEREAS, For the past 43 years, Mr. Tucker's exceptional 2-20 work has helped give young Texans the education necessary to 2-21 become informed, thoughtful, and well-rounded adults who will 2-22 make positive contributions to society; all Texans have benefitted 2-23 from his commitment to excellence in his profession, and for his 2-24 lifetime of achievements in the field of education, Mr. Tucker is 3-1 truly worthy of legislative commendation; now, therefore, be it 3-2 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-3 77th Legislature, hereby express its deepest appreciation to 3-4 James Larry Tucker for his 43 years of work as an educator in Texas 3-5 and wish him best of luck in his retired life; and, be it further 3-6 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him 3-7 as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 3-8 Cain 3-9 ______________________________________ 3-10 President of the Senate 3-11 I hereby certify that the above 3-12 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-13 on May 18, 2001. 3-14 ______________________________________ 3-15 Secretary of the Senate 3-16 ______________________________________ 3-17 Member, Texas Senate
