                                 R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Texas, 77th
1-2 Legislature, Regular Session, 2001, That Senate Rule 12.03 be
1-3 suspended in part as provided by Senate Rule 12.08 to enable the
1-4 conference committee appointed to resolve the differences on Senate
1-5 Bill No. 1596, relating to the establishment and operation of the
1-6 Toward EXcellence, Access, & Success (TEXAS) grant II program, to
1-7 consider and take action on the following matter:
1-8 Senate Rule 12.03(1) is suspended to permit the committee to
1-9 amend proposed Section 56.357(g), Education Code, to read as
1-10 follows:
1-11 (g) An institution may use other available sources of
1-12 financial aid, other than a loan or a Pell grant, to cover any
1-13 difference in the amount of a TEXAS grant II and the actual amount
1-14 of tuition and required fees at the institution.
1-15 Explanation: Subsection (g) is amended to conform to Section
1-16 56.307(j), Education Code, which provides that a loan or Pell grant
1-17 may not be used to cover any difference in the amount of a TEXAS
1-18 grant and the actual amount of tuition and required fees at an
1-19 institution. The change is necessary to provide consistency between
1-20 the TEXAS grant II program and the TEXAS grant program.
