1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1123 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Roy E. Pitts 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-7 of Star Harbor in mourning the loss of Roy E. Pitts, who died 1-8 March 6, 2001, at the age of 88; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A native of Collin County, Roy Pitts began his 1-10 distinguished career while he was still a student at the Dallas 1-11 School of Law; he attended classes at night while serving as the 1-12 secretary to the general counsel of the Lone Star Gas Company in 1-13 the day; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Following his graduation from law school, Roy Pitts 1-15 continued his career with Lone Star Gas Company, and after a 1-16 series of promotions over a 20-year period, he was named general 1-17 counsel; in 1971, he was elected chairman of the board; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Pitts was dedicated to his work with Lone Star 1-19 Gas Company until his retirement in 1977; during his highly 1-20 successful career, he played a major role in transforming Lone 1-21 Star Gas Company into a worldwide diversified energy company; and 2-1 WHEREAS, An expert in his field, Mr. Pitts belonged to a 2-2 number of professional organizations, including American Gas 2-3 Association, the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, 2-4 and the American Bar Association; he served for nine years as a 2-5 director for the Trinity River Authority; and 2-6 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Roy Pitts was respected for 2-7 his many accomplishments and his leadership in the community; and 2-8 WHEREAS, He volunteered much of his time and talent to the 2-9 Star Harbor community by serving as an attorney for the city; 2-10 he was a fourth-degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and 2-11 a Paul Harris Fellow of the Malakoff Rotary Club; a devout 2-12 Christian, he was a member of the Mary, Queen of Heaven Catholic 2-13 Church; and 2-14 WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he 2-15 gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, 2-16 and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; 2-17 and 2-18 WHEREAS, Roy Pitts was a devoted husband, father, 2-19 and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be 2-20 treasured forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, 2-21 be it 2-22 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-23 77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences 3-1 to the bereaved family of Roy E. Pitts: his wife, 3-2 Agnes Maloney Pitts; his daughter, Rosemary Pitts Burns; 3-3 his sons, State Representative Jim Pitts and John R. Pitts; 3-4 and his seven grandchildren; and, be it further 3-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 3-6 for the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy 3-7 from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, 3-8 it do so in memory of Roy E.
