1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1125 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-4 commend Marcia L. Conner for her outstanding work as Assistant 1-5 City Manager for Austin, Texas; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A graduate of Talladega College in Alabama, 1-7 Marcia Conner went on to earn her master's degree in community 1-8 planning from the University of Cincinnati; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Prior to coming to Austin, she earned high praise 1-10 from the Government Finance Officers Association for her work 1-11 as Budget Director for Arlington County, Virginia; and 1-12 WHEREAS, As Assistant City Manager of Austin, Marcia Conner 1-13 oversees the Austin Police Department, Health and Human Services 1-14 Department, the Library Department, Solid Waste Services, and the 1-15 Municipal Court; she also presides over two economic development 1-16 programs, the Central City Entertainment Center and the 11th and 1-17 12th Street Redevelopment Project; and 1-18 WHEREAS, In addition to her role as Assistant City Manager, 1-19 Marcia Conner serves Austin in several other capacities; she is 1-20 on the boards of the Austin Lyric Opera, Austin Area Urban League, 1-21 and Any Baby Can; she is also active in the Austin Junior League; 1-22 and 1-23 WHEREAS, For her exceptional work in city management, 2-1 Marcia Conner has earned the esteem of her community; she was 2-2 honored by NOKOA-The Observer newspaper as Austin's 1996 African 2-3 American Female Role Model of the Year and was named Woman to 2-4 Watch by the Austin Capital City Business and Professional Women's 2-5 Organization; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Marcia Conner's exceptional work has helped Austin 2-7 achieve its reputation as one of the nation's most desirable 2-8 areas to live, and her dedication to residents of her community, 2-9 as both a professional and a volunteer, is worthy of the highest 2-10 commendation; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 77th Legislature, hereby commend Marcia L.
