 1-2                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1131
 1-3           WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that the Texas Senate
 1-4     recognize Edward D. Garza, who was elected on Cinco de Mayo of
 1-5     this year to serve as Mayor of San Antonio, the ninth largest
 1-6     city in the nation; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Ed Garza is a native San Antonian; he attended
 1-8     The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied business
 1-9     administration for two years; he later transferred to and
1-10     graduated from Texas A&M, where he received a bachelor of
1-11     landscape architecture degree and a master of science degree in
1-12     land development; he is also an adjunct professor at Saint Mary's
1-13     University; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Mayor Garza began his political career serving
1-15     as an administrative and legislative assistant to current
1-16     Senator Mario Gallegos while he served in the
1-17     House of Representatives and again as a member of the
1-18     Texas Senate; Ed Garza also worked for the late United States
1-19     Congressman Frank Tejeda; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Ed Garza has been a recognized leader in numerous
1-21     community and civic organizations since 1987; he was first elected
1-22     into office in 1997 as a member of the San Antonio City Council
1-23     and was re-elected to a second term in 1999; among his council
 2-1     accomplishments include his leading the charge for fluoride in
 2-2     the water and inner city revitalization; now, therefore, be it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-4     77th Legislature, hereby recognize this remarkable young mayor
 2-5     and wish him the very best as he continues to serve the good
 2-6     people of San Antonio; and, be it further
 2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be presented
 2-8     to him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
