1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1134 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great 1-4 pleasure in recognizing Clyde E. Scott for his outstanding 1-5 work as a member of the Sun Bowl Association; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The Sun Bowl is a longstanding tradition in 1-7 El Paso, which began New Year's Day in 1935, when an El Paso 1-8 high school all-star team defeated a team from Ranger, Texas; 1-9 and 1-10 WHEREAS, The game was originally played to raise funds 1-11 for improvements to the El Paso High School stadium and to 1-12 help underprivileged children; the next year, however, the 1-13 event featured college football teams; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Today, the Sun Bowl is one of the oldest bowls 1-15 in the nation, and CBS Sports will broadcast the 2001 game for 1-16 the 34th consecutive year; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Clyde has been involved with the Sun Bowl 1-18 Association since 1992, and he served as the association's 1-19 president from 1998 through 1999; a successful businessman, 1-20 he is currently the owner and chief operations officer of 1-21 Desert Eagle Distributing of El Paso and Roswell, New Mexico; 1-22 and 2-1 WHEREAS, Clyde has served as president of the Texas Food 2-2 Industry Association and the Corpus Christi Retail Grocers 2-3 Association and as a board member of the Texas Oil Marketers 2-4 Association Insurance Trust; and 2-5 WHEREAS, In addition to his professional affiliations, 2-6 Clyde serves such organizations as the El Paso Association for 2-7 the Performing Arts, the El Paso Chamber of Commerce, and the 2-8 El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; and 2-9 WHEREAS, For his role in carrying on the grand occasion 2-10 of the El Paso Sun Bowl games and for his outstanding civic 2-11 involvement, Clyde Scott is truly worthy of legislative 2-12 commendation; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 77th Legislature, hereby commend Clyde E.
