1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1140 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Carl LeBlanc 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 1-7 citizens of Nederland in mourning the loss of prominent 1-8 businessman and respected civic leader Carl "Cropo" LeBlanc, 1-9 who died May 15, 2001, at the age of 76; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The many important achievements of this 1-11 distinguished and beloved gentleman contributed greatly to the 1-12 development and progress of the city he so dearly loved; and 1-13 WHEREAS, A barber in Nederland for over 50 years, 1-14 Carl LeBlanc was a vital part of this community and worked 1-15 tirelessly as mayor and member of the city council for over 1-16 18 years; deeply involved in various civic organizations to 1-17 benefit the citizens of the area, he served on the Nederland 1-18 Economic Development Corporation and as president of the 1-19 Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission in 1975 and the 1-20 Nederland Chamber of Commerce in 1977; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Aside from his political involvements, the native 2-1 of Little Abbeville received much enjoyment from his many years 2-2 of announcing high school football games, working as a member of 2-3 the board of directors of the Young Men's Christian Association, 2-4 and participating in the Nederland Heritage Festival, which he 2-5 helped found; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Recognized by his associates for his leadership 2-7 and considerable abilities, Mr. LeBlanc was honored in 1977 by the 2-8 Nederland Chamber of Commerce as an Outstanding Nederland Citizen, 2-9 was named Mr. Nederland, and was dubbed Knight of the Year three 2-10 times for his involvement in the Knights of Columbus; and 2-11 WHEREAS, An active member of Saint Charles Catholic Church, 2-12 this devout Christian gentleman displayed great compassion for 2-13 those in need as he practiced his faith in his daily life; and 2-14 WHEREAS, Mr. LeBlanc's death is a profoundly sensed loss 2-15 for his family, his business associates, and his friends; 2-16 well-respected for his deep sense of purpose and generosity of 2-17 spirit, this man with a warm smile will not be easily forgotten; 2-18 now, therefore, be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-20 77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 2-21 family of Carl LeBlanc; his wife of 60 years, Vera, and his 2-22 five children; and, be it further 2-23 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 3-1 for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 3-2 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it 3-3 do so in memory of Carl "Cropo" LeBlanc. 3-4 Bernsen 3-5 ______________________________________ 3-6 President of the Senate 3-7 I hereby certify that the above 3-8 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-9 on May 22, 2001, by a rising vote. 3-10 ______________________________________ 3-11 Secretary of the Senate 3-12 ______________________________________ 3-13 Member, Texas Senate
