 1-4                                     of
 1-5                            Hardie Moran Lockett
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Dallas in mourning the loss of Hardie Moran Lockett, who died
 1-8     Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the age of 63; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born in Bremond, Texas, Hardie Lockett graduated
1-10     from Booker T. Washington High School in Plainview and from Bishop
1-11     College in Dallas; he earned a master's degree from North Texas
1-12     State University; and
1-13           WHEREAS, After serving in the United States Army,
1-14     Mr. Lockett began a successful career in education as a teacher
1-15     at William Brown Miller Elementary School in Dallas; he later
1-16     served as the assistant principal at Lisbon Elementary School
1-17     and Roosevelt High School; he was principal at the Sarah Zumwalt
1-18     Middle School for 13 years until he retired in 1993; and
1-19           WHEREAS, Mr. Lockett was dedicated to his work in the field
1-20     of education and loved to work with young people; following his
1-21     retirement, he helped students to earn their General Educational
 2-1     Development certificates and served in various administrative
 2-2     positions in the Dallas Public Schools System; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman,
 2-4     Hardie Lockett was respected for his many accomplishments and
 2-5     for his leadership in the community; he was a member of the
 2-6     Connecting Link, Mid-Cities Texas Chapter Links, Incorporated,
 2-7     and King Solomon Masonic Lodge 514; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Hardie had an unconditional love for people and
 2-9     children and championed civic and philanthropic causes; he was
2-10     a troop leader for the Mustang Boy Scouts of America; and
2-11           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
2-12     gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth,
2-13     and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
2-14           WHEREAS, A devout Christian, he was a member of New Hope
2-15     Baptist Church, where he helped with the New Hope Bread Basket; and
2-16           WHEREAS, Hardie Lockett lived his life to the fullest and
2-17     was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves
2-18     behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
2-19     many friends; now, therefore, be it
2-20           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-21     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to
2-22     the bereaved family of Hardie Moran Lockett:  his wife,
2-23     Gloria Bowie Lockett; his sons, Eric Moran, Ellery Marlon,
 3-1     Lester Charles, Perry, and Terry; his brothers, Carl Lockett
 3-2     and Allan Neil Lockett; his sisters, Barbara Ruth Nash,
 3-3     Lula Marie Royals, Marjorie Priscilla Hutchinson, and
 3-4     Brienda Dieniece Middleton; and his four grandchildren; and,
 3-5     be it further
 3-6           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 3-7     the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
 3-8     from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
 3-9     day, it do so in memory of Hardie Lockett.
