1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1147 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Lewis Kirk 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 1-7 citizens of Texas in mourning the death of Lewis Kirk, who 1-8 died July 18, 1999 at age 69; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Born June 7, 1930, on a ranch near Postoak, 1-10 Jack County, Lewis Kirk spent most of his life working as a 1-11 rancher; he bought and sold sheep, cattle, and other livestock 1-12 and at one time operated a wool and mohair operation; and 1-13 WHEREAS, A well-known community supporter, Lewis Kirk 1-14 generously gave of his time to benefit his fellow citizens; the 1-15 Community Action Corporation in Wichita Falls, the Jack County 1-16 Volunteer Fire Department, and the Jack County Soil and Water 1-17 Conservation District are but three of the many organizations 1-18 he served; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Lewis Kirk was especially enthusiastic about 1-20 assisting community youth organizations and was active with 1-21 the 4-H and FFA organizations; and 1-22 WHEREAS, For his years of hard work, his magnanimous 2-1 spirit, and unfailing generosity, Lewis was honored by his 2-2 community in 1999, when the Jacksboro Chamber of Commerce 2-3 presented him with its Longtime Outstanding Community 2-4 Service Award; he and his family were also recipients of the 2-5 Agriculture Family of the Year Award for Jack County in 1987; 2-6 and 2-7 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Lewis Kirk earned 2-8 the unqualified respect and affection of his fellow citizens, 2-9 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever 2-10 by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 2-13 family of Lewis Kirk: his children, Sandra Jackson, 2-14 Sherita Forbus, Danny Kirk, and Levi Kirk; and his 2-15 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-17 for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 2-18 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it 2-19 do so in memory of Lewis Kirk. 2-20 Sibley 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the above 2-24 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-25 on May 23, 2001, by a rising vote. 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Secretary of the Senate 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Member, Texas Senate
