 1-4                                     of
 1-5                           Alfred Charles Johnson
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Waco in mourning the loss of Alfred Charles Johnson, who died
 1-8     May 9, 2001, at the age of 64; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born December 6, 1936, in Edinburg, Texas, A. C.
1-10     graduated from Texas A&M University, where he lettered in football;
1-11     and
1-12           WHEREAS, A. C. carved a successful career serving in a
1-13     number of public service positions which ranged from city manager
1-14     of Marlin, Texas, to founding member and secretary of the board of
1-15     the Central Texas Resource Conservation and Development District;
1-16     and
1-17           WHEREAS, In 1987, A. C. was appointed executive director of
1-18     the Central Texas Council of Governments; as executive director,
1-19     he became active in numerous projects and programs, such as
1-20     industrial park development, Interstate Highway 35 Central Texas
1-21     corridor development studies, historic renovations, and
 2-1     administration of overall economic development programs; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, A. C. Johnson was respected
 2-3     for his many accomplishments and his leadership in the community;
 2-4     and
 2-5           WHEREAS, He served on the National Association of Regional
 2-6     Councils board of directors and executive committee and the board
 2-7     of directors of the National Association of Metropolitan Planning
 2-8     Organization for Transportation; he was a guest lecturer on urban
 2-9     and regional planning at Texas A&M University; and
2-10           WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson was a devout Christian and was active
2-11     in the First United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday
2-12     school teacher and was a member of the Board of Stewards for more
2-13     than 16 years; he was elected to the Divan of the Karem Shrine
2-14     Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. and was a Master Mason, York Rite Mason,
2-15     Scottish Rite Mason, and Shriner and an elected member of the
2-16     Royal Order of Jesters Court 115; and
2-17           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
2-18     gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth,
2-19     and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
2-20           WHEREAS, A. C. Johnson lived his life to the fullest and was
2-21     a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind
2-22     memories that will be treasured forever by his family and many
2-23     friends; now, therefore, be it
 3-1           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 3-2     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 3-3     family of Alfred Charles Johnson:  his wife, Jacquelyn Johnson;
 3-4     his daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly Sue and Russell Horn
 3-5     and Karoljeanne "Jeanne" and Bill Schroeder; his son and
 3-6     daughter-in-law, Ryan Lyn and Robin Johnson; his stepsons,
 3-7     Robert H. Jones and Russell Jones; his mother and father,
 3-8     Mildred Haley and Selmer Johnson; his brothers, Bob Johnson and
 3-9     Jerry Johnson; and his 14 grandchildren; and, be it further
3-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
3-11     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
3-12     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
3-13     do so in memory of A. C. Johnson.
