1-1 ****** NEED TWO-PAGE HEADER ****** 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1165 1-3 WHEREAS, On August 31, 2001, Bobby Kees Marks is retiring 1-4 from his position as President of Sam Houston State University 1-5 after more than four decades of exemplary service as a member of 1-6 the school faculty and administration; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Dr. Marks joined the faculty of Sam Houston State 1-8 Teachers College in 1960 and was promoted through the academic 1-9 ranks; he served for 15 years as Dean of the School of Business 1-10 and Applied Arts, for 11 years as Vice President for Academic 1-11 Affairs and Student Services, and as Interim President from 1-12 October 16, 1995, to June 4, 1996; and 1-13 WHEREAS, This highly regarded man was named Sam Houston 1-14 State University's 11th president on June 4, 1996; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The major focus of Dr. Marks's administration has 1-16 been the use of technology for instructional programs, student 1-17 retention, fundraising, and international activities; and 1-18 WHEREAS, His pursuit of service to humankind is demonstrated 1-19 through his lifetime involvement in education and community service 1-20 and as a mentor to thousands of students; and 1-21 WHEREAS, To his students and colleagues, he is highly 1-22 respected as a man of integrity, warmth, and good humor; he works 2-1 assiduously as a citizen of the community and leads through example 2-2 and courteous statesmanship; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Bobby Kees Marks has demonstrated the dedication, 2-4 commitment, and fairness essential for success in this esteemed 2-5 position throughout his tenure; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Dr. Marks has given generously of his time and 2-7 experience to the citizens of Walker County and the City of 2-8 Huntsville, and his service has been an asset to the State of Texas; 2-9 now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-11 77th Legislature, hereby commend Bobby Kees Marks for his 2-12 distinguished tenure with the Texas State University System and 2-13 Sam Houston State University, in particular, and extend to him 2-14 sincere best wishes for much happiness and success in years to 2-15 come; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 2-17 prepared for Dr. Marks as an expression of high regard from 2-18 the Texas Senate. 2-19 Ogden 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 President of the Senate 2-22 I hereby certify that the above 2-23 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-24 on May 23, 2001. 2-25 ______________________________________ 2-26 Secretary of the Senate 2-27 ______________________________________ 2-28 Member, Texas Senate
