 1-5                            Loretta June McClure
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-7     citizens of Bastrop in mourning the loss of cherished community
 1-8     leader Loretta June McClure, who died May 18, 2001; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born in Pennsylvania on May 19, 1924, Loretta
1-10     married B. Spencer McClure in 1941; they lived and traveled in
1-11     South America and the islands of the Caribbean before settling
1-12     in San Antonio in 1950 to raise their family; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Loretta retired with her husband first to
1-14     Floresville in 1976 and then four years later, to Bastrop, where
1-15     she became one of the town's most active and beloved citizens;
1-16     and
1-17           WHEREAS, A woman of abundant talents, Loretta was well
1-18     known for her industriousness and energy; a highly regarded
1-19     therapist, she worked with mentally disabled children and adults
1-20     for six years; later in life, she earned her diploma as a
1-21     licensed vocational nurse and began a second career in obstetrical
 2-1     nursing; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Accomplished in painting and ceramics, Loretta
 2-3     also found time to develop her skills as an equestrian and a dancer;
 2-4     she participated in many South Texas trail rides and was an active
 2-5     member of the famed Bastrop Opera House; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, She excelled in so many of the interests and
 2-7     passions she pursued over the years, but foremost among Loretta's
 2-8     life accomplishments were her children; a gracious and loving
 2-9     mother, she took supreme joy in her role as matriarch of the
2-10     McClure family; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Always one to take an active role in supporting her
2-12     community, Loretta donated her time and energies in the Bastrop
2-13     First Christian Church, the Bastrop Senior Center, the Bastrop
2-14     Opera House, and the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce; and
2-15           WHEREAS, A true lady, who lived her life with energy and
2-16     passion, Loretta leaves her family and many friends memories
2-17     that they will treasure forever; the State of Texas was truly
2-18     fortunate to have counted this unique and spirited individual
2-19     as one of its citizens; now, therefore, be it
2-20           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-21     77th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family
2-22     of Loretta June McClure:  her children, Spencer F. McClure,
2-23     Cheryl L. McClure, and Steven C. McClure; and her five grandchildren
 3-1     and her two great-grandchildren; and, be it further
 3-2           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
 3-3     family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
 3-4     and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
 3-5     Loretta June McClure.
